DR. HENRY EDWARD ROBERTS | 1941-2010

APRIL 2/MICHAEL BAYLOR

The technology world lost a pioneer this week.

Dr. Henry Edward Roberts, developer of the Altair 8800 computer and rightfully credited with launching the modern computer era, died Thursday, April 1, 2010.

We also have him to thank for inspiring Bill Gates and Paul Allen to start Microsoft in 1975 after they saw an article about the MITS Altair 8800 in Popular Electronics.

Dr. Roberts work has great historical significance and all of us that make our living in the field of technology owe him a debt of gratitude.

Please support the IT History Society for their work in keeping our history alive by chronicling the work of Dr Roberts and other notable individuals in the field of technology.

Prayers and condolences to his family for their significant loss.

God Speed Dr. Roberts!
